How Do We Obtain Information About Our Origins? The most important consideration in order to understand human history and why conditions are not good in the world since the Fall of Man in Genesis 3 is to see what the Scriptures have to say. For those persons intuitive enough and seeking to find real answers to many questions about our origins, a prayerful, thorough and complete study of all the first eleven chapters of Genesis is a must. There are many excellent organizations and websites about Creationism, but one should study these first eleven chapters before diving into many other topics outside Scripture. I have recommendations and references to make to the reader in this website including my other website at www.creation4000bc.com. I have read and studied all of the Scriptures for over 50 years of my lifetime and have discovered that the first eleven chapters of Genesis have been misunderstood and largely ignored in the secular and Christian world. There is no need for this. Many have ignored the Bible altogether or have only read small portions of it and thus, they listen to what the secular world has to say. Many think that man's wisdom supersedes God's Wisdom but Real Wisdom can only be obtained in His Holy, Inspired Truth found in the Bible (Proverbs 24:3-7). There are those who willfully misinterpret God's Holy Word to fit their personal agenda and beliefs. Please do not try to fully understand what I am saying here until you have at least read the first eleven chapters of Genesis. You probably have noticed the banners on this page. I have no direct connection to Answers in Genesis and I am not an employee of theirs. This is not a personal money making venture! I do not intend to profit from sales made with AIG. I believe in their mission of reporting the Gospel Message of Jesus Christ through Biblical Truth; especially the first chapters of Genesis that seem to get largely ignored by many. I am simply using my websites to do my part to reveal the Inerrant Factual Historical Truth of the Scriptures as given to us by our Lord Jesus Christ (John 1:1-18). Two Study Methods Concerning Origins There are two ways to study our origins. The first and most important method, as I previously mentioned, is a thorough reading and study, without outside help, of the first eleven chapters of Genesis. The second method is to read and study topics, books and reference materials concerning historical evidence and archaeological finds that help support the actual history of mankind as defined in the Bible. Let us first examine an outline of the Biblical passages. The Genealogies in the First Eleven Chapters of Genesis Genealogies are laid out in Genesis, chapters 4, 5, 10 and we see the dispersion in chapter 11 from the Tower of Babel. There are two types of genealogies in chapters 4,5, and 10, one unrighteous and others righteous. The righteous lineage takes us all the way to Jesus Christ (see Luke 3:23-38). *I am calling these various lineages righteous or unrighteous. I cannot say that each individual in a particular line can be separated out and called righteous or unrighteous. The Scripture does reveal some of these persons as righteous or unrighteous. We will know for sure when we arrive in the presence of the Lord.* Unrighteous Lineage From Genesis 4 The genealogy from Genesis 4:17-24 concerns the descendants from Cain. Cain was considered unrighteous when he killed his brother Abel and he was separated from the Lord. Genesis 4 and I John 3:12 substantiate this. You need to pay particular attention to the format of the genealogy of Cain in chapter 4. There are no life spans given in years. A number of the descendants in Cain's genealogy are reported as evil whereas Abel (who was killed) was considered righteous (again Genesis 4 and I John 3:12). Righteous Lineage From Genesis 5 Click on the blue link for a chart called "Genealogy of Genesis 5 Adam to Noah." Now go to Genesis 5 and we read about the descendants from Adam to Noah.This is where we see the first recording of any descendants that have life spans described (long ones at that - see the page Age Chart - Adam to Joseph). We also see when each descendant begat a son in a particular year of the father's life. This is in contrast to the Unrighteous Lineage from Genesis 4 discussed in the previous paragraph when no years of life were stated or the year when any of Cain's descendants begat a son. The reason for this distinction of the Scriptures providing the actual lifespans in years in the Righteous Lineage in contrast to the Unrighteous Lineage, as I have stated previously, is to show the Righteous lineage leading to Jesus Christ (Luke 3:23-38) and we have the exact number of years given. How can we miss or should I say, dismiss the number of years given to us in determining the actual age of the earth? It definitely cannot be millions or billions of years but thousands! These years were based on the Jewish year method, but were real years similar to today. Righteous Lineage From Genesis 10 The next genealogy comes from Genesis 10. This chapter is called "The Table of Nations or Nations Descended from Noah." Noah's three sons are the main characters from whom we all descended after the "Global Flood (see Genesis, chapters 6-9)." If you have some knowledge of your ancestry, you can get a general idea of your mix (not many, if any, are considered today as near-pure). Various parts of the world were originally settled by the descendants of these three sons of Noah. In other words, we all descended from those three and their wives (consider their father Noah, and his wife, of course). We saw in the paragraph above titled "Righteous Lineage From Genesis 5" the genealogy from Adam to Noah. We really descended from Adam and Eve - the first persons ever to exist created on day 6 approximately 6000 years ago. Did you know that Eve was called the "Mother of All Living"? She wasn't called the mother of some! We have the possibility to have descend from a variety of lineages (remember, our original first parents were Adam and Eve and then broken down from the sons of Noah and their wives that survived the Global Flood as recorded in Genesis 6-9). When Noah and his three sons departed the ark these areas include the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Asia, the islands, etc. Again, refer to The Table of Nations in Genesis 10 and the chart titled "Table of Nations" under the page of the same name in this website. Chapter 11 is titled "The Tower of Babel" in verses 1 - 9, "Shem's Descendants" in verses 10-26 and "Terah's Descendants" in verses 27-32. The Tower of Babel From Genesis 11:1-9 We get our different languages here. The world all spoke one language up to this point with some minor cultural differences or colloquialisms, however, the language was understood and spoken by all. If you want to know about the dispersal of the population of Babel to the rest of the world, I recommend you read the books and access the links to the articles I have referenced at the end of this section. It is not the intent of this website to provide all the information on the subject of the dispersal from the Tower of Babel. It is too lengthy and too detailed to publish all the possibilities here. Many excellent writers have contributed a considerable amount of time, money and effort on these topics and it is best to read and understand their materials. Please refer to the list of references at the end of this article. Righteous Lineage Genesis 11:10-26 - A Continuation of Shem's Descendants Remember, we see this lineage going all the way to Jesus Christ (Luke 3:23-38). Righteous Lineage From Genesis 11:27-32 This is called "Terah's Descendants". Who was Terah? The Father of Abram (Abraham as he was called later by God). Abram lived from 1948 to 2123 according to the "Age Chart - Adam to Joseph." Many Christian scholars (and possibly secular ones) would be careful to deny how long ago Abraham lived. Many would agree, but not all. The unique thing we have at our disposal from God's Word is the Adam to Noah genealogy in Genesis 5 and from Noah to Abram in Genesis 11. Add up the years from Adam to Abram and you have it! Refer to "Age Chart - Adam to Joseph." [Year 1948 (birth) + 175 years of life = Year 2123 (death)]. Abram lived around 4000 BC so now add up the years and you get a little over 6000 years for the age of the earth - definitely not millions or billions.
