Harsh Words Sad but True - A Family Testimony
As my title of this page says, it sounds harsh. This account is true and as I also said, sad. Just to show you how beliefs in secular humanism hit at home I will give you an account of my grandmother and aunt on my father’s side. I’ll try to be nice but it is difficult.
My grandfather died when I was a young boy around the first grade. He left my grandmother in good financial condition, however, I wonder if he left her in good spiritual condition. You see, the matters of the spirit are more important than matters of the physical world. True, we must have what we need to sustain life and I am not trying to diminish the importance of that but a person’s eternal destiny is just that, eternal. This life is normally around 80 and I am not too far from that now.
My grandmother influenced my aunt and I feel she literally tore apart her marriage but my aunt had to have had a hand in that also by going along with her. After my aunt’s divorce she moved in with my grandmother. My cousin who was three months older than me naturally went with her because she divorced when he was merely a child. My cousin has since passed on. My aunt had received a high standing education in a well know university and became a science teacher at the local public school to help with support. She also went on later to get her master’s degree. Of course, she was indoctrinated in evolutionary ideas – not only evolution but that the earth is millions of years in age. There is no telling how many young kids she helped ruin with her false teaching of evolution and an old earth. My grandmother went right along with her taking in all the fallacious ideas of evolution and an old earth. My aunt's education coupled with her gullibility is one part of the problem. They acted as if it was a religion (it really is!). Read on.
The second part of the problem is that they attended a very liberal church that believed in all this nonsense of evolution and an old earth. As time progressed other denials of Scripture began to come out. My grandmother would make statements like, “You know, last Sunday we heard a sermon from Pastor and he gave reasons why the Virgin Birth was not true and I can see his point – it must not have happened.” OK, you are going to say what part did evolution have on this? You need to understand that evolution is totally opposed to the Bible and if you don’t believe part of it (Genesis 1-11), why believe any of it as true?
The problem got worse and I remember going to the local national park nature museum of which my family had influence in and seeing evolutionary posters all over the place. I won't mention which park because many are familiar with this prominent attraction. Now showing evolutionary posters and other media seems to be the norm for most museums (NOT THE CREATION MUSEUM at Answers in Genesis and a few precious others such as ICR, etc.). I firmly believe from what I remember that my grandmother and aunt had a big influence for evolution on the management of the park and that is why we see all those ridiculous and unnecessary posters there. I remember these posters were furnished by the local high school where my aunt taught and she was so proud of her students. During the visit that day with my mother and father at the park I made a comment in front of my grandmother and aunt that I didn't believe in all of that evolution. I received a strong even angry verbal tongue-lashing from both of them. It was like telling me I had better repent and change my mind. What incredible indoctrination!
There are other examples and I could go on but let me summarize. Quite frankly and sadly I doubt my grandmother’s and aunt’s salvation although it is possible they made it for eternity with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ even while denying His Virgin Birth and other things from Scripture along with apostate teachings in their church and their horrendous secular non-Biblical ideas. They have since passed on. This still hurts today.
Secularists like "Bill Nye the Science Guy" say that not believing in evolution and teaching it cramps the advancement of science (see the on-line video Bill Nye debates Ken Ham). They also say that creation is a mythological belief! Did the atheistic religion of secular humanism creep into the lives of my grandmother and aunt and into those of their church? Absolutely!
Fortunately my father and mother weren't greatly influenced by secular humanism and evolution with an old earth (which is really atheism). I was never fooled into believing these lies thanks to my parent’s raising though early on I may have done what many do – ignore the problem. I changed soon enough and started re-studying the Scriptures. Guess where I started? In Genesis of course – it is the first part of the Bible isn't it? After education and four years in the military, getting married and securing a job we began attending a true Bible believing (?) church as my family started. Oh yes, I had to leave with my new family from our first church and join another because the pastor decided to teach the “Gap Theory.” I saw through it thank God!
I thank God that I was brought up in a time when secular humanism was not really taught strongly in my secondary (grammar) school classes. We even had first class morning devotions and a prayer over the public address (PA) system from the School Principal! After that we pledged allegiance to the Flag of the United States! None of this was unconstitutional - can you believe that?!
Later on in high school secular humanism was taught at times but we weren't really indoctrinated in evolution or belief in an old earth. I can't even remember any classes about evolution and an old earth or apparently it didn't make a strong impression on me. I remember what I needed to learn and I feel I received a very good education. Classes I attended in various universities didn't seem to be heavy into evolution and an old earth at that time. School systems today have changed for the worse especially in the last few years. Praise God for a Bible-believing church I attended in my youth also. You should be in one too.
Lately my wife and I have been studying in great detail God's Word from the first eleven chapters in Genesis as well as other areas of Scripture. Our children were raised in a Bible-believing church and still attend.
We have included in our personal study of Scripture, Hebrew from websites such as www.hebrew4christians.com as well as others. You can receive a special blessing from Jehovah Elohim Adonai when you understand the exact wording of all of God's infallible and inerrant Scriptures as they relate to the original ancient language of Hebrew - the original language of Adam and Eve!
